If you were to happen by my very un-lame myspace page you would see a list of my heros. The man pictured above is #1 on that list. Fred Rogers, beloved host of Mr. Roger’s neighborhood is my hero. He has been since I was about four years old and though that fact has never changed the reasons why have. Once I became a parent I began to appreciate him in a whole new way.
It’s you I like,
It’s not the things you wear,
It’s not the way you do your hair–
But it’s you I like
The way you are right now,
The way down deep inside you–
Not the things that hide you,
Not your toys–
They’re just beside you.
But it’s you I like–
Every part of you,
Your skin, your eyes, your feelings
Whether old or new.
I hope that you’ll remember
Even when you’re feeling blue
That it’s you I like,
It’s you yourself,
It’s you, it’s you I like.
Fred Rogers, the world is a better place because you were in it. You inspire me to be a more patient loving and tolerant person – therefore I am a better person because of you. You were and continue to be loved.

Thanks so much for that CNN link! Brought tears to my eyes (but then so much does now that I’m a Mum
.
oh, i love mr. rogers! have you ever read his books? he has a couple of them and they are great. i wish mr. rogers was still on tv so my kids could watch him.
i did see an episode at like 4am on pbs a few weeks ago, and it ocurred to me that mr. rogers does all the voices of the puppets. how did i not realize that as a child?
I have only read his book about going to the potty back when Bear was learning to use the toilet. PBS here still shows Mr. Rogers in the mornings, we’re just that lucky I guess.
